My Story
Hey! I’m Mackenzie. I’m a master’s level counselor working toward my APC license in the state of Georgia. I graduated with my master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in June 2025, and I’ve worked in the mental health field for 4 years as an RBT, a medical assistant at a community service board, and a behavioral health counselor under the APEX program.
I didn’t anticipate my life path being a counselor. In fact, it wasn’t until halfway through my undergraduate studies that I decided to become one. How I’ve described it to others is that the role just fits who I am. Caring, supporting, and loving people comes naturally to me, and I believe people from all walks of life deserve kindness, care, patience, and empathy. My own trauma and personal journey with mental health have also given me the ability to better relate to and connect with others in their struggles.
In working with kids, adolescents, and teens, I’ve learned that they’re just as complex as adults. They’re just still learning the skills and tools they need to carry them through life. My goal as a counselor is to bring joy, brighten lives, and teach others to stand tall.
My Area of Expertise
I’ve previously worked in community mental health, where I met people from a wide variety of backgrounds, identities, and struggles. I work most closely with tweens and teens, supporting them through their battles with depression, anxiety, anger, grief, suicidal thoughts, and self-harm.
I use an integrative approach, with a foundation of person-centered care supported by CBT and psychodynamic approaches. Being a newer provider means I’m still learning and growing, and I’m always looking to expand my horizons and bring in more evidence-based practices to support what my clients need.
How I Approach Therapy
What's My Vibe
My approach to therapy is that I’m a companion on a journey you’re taking. Sometimes I’ll serve as a guide. Sometimes I’ll be the one pushing you to keep going. And sometimes I’m simply there, providing a comforting presence in a space that feels safe.
Collaboration, communication, and mutual respect are key. You are important, and your time and presence are important. Sessions can feel fun and relaxed, or they can be cathartic, depending on what you need that day. Come as you are. You’re welcomed with open arms no matter what.
I’m a really laid-back person. I’m honestly just here for the ride, and I’m happy to listen. I like to bring joy, and I like to laugh. People are fun to learn about and learn with. Previous clients have described me as extremely patient, warm, and kind, and I’ve been compared to a teacher and a sister. But when I do get serious, I’m never mean. I’ll be direct and honest, and I won’t sugarcoat things.
