My Story
Hi, I’m Alexia. I am a Clinical Mental Health Counseling graduate working toward my LPC, under the supervision of Karen McCain, LPC, CPCS. My journey into counseling has been shaped by my own experiences as a former student-athlete, my passion for understanding people, and my belief that mental health is an important part of how we show up in every area of our lives. Being an athlete taught me a lot about discipline, resilience, identity, pressure, and what it feels like to navigate seasons of change. It also showed me that sometimes what we need most is someone who can listen, help us make sense of what we’re experiencing, and remind us that we don’t have to figure everything out alone.
As I’ve grown in this field and worked with people from all walks of life, I found a love for creating spaces where people can be open and honest about their mental health. I became a counselor because I wanted to be the resource for others that I needed for myself: someone who meets people where they are and helps them feel seen without judgement. I also love that this work lets me help people discover they’re capable of more than they may realize.
My Area of Expertise
I feel especially comfortable working with clients navigating anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, stress, and relationship concerns. I help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors while building coping skills that feel realistic and useful in everyday life. I also help clients explore boundaries and build healthier relationships with family, friends, and peers. And as a former student-athlete, I understand the ways performance, expectations, identity, and major life transitions can affect your mental and emotional well-being.
My adaptability is something I take great pride in. At the top of my counselor toolbox are CBT, DBT, and mindfulness, along with other interventions I use depending on what you need. I also love making therapy creative and personable. Psychoeducation and interventions are important, but people remember less about what you say and more about how you made them feel. Finding that common ground with each client is a challenge I genuinely enjoy, because that’s how therapy starts to make sense for you and leads to wellbeing that lasts.
I believe therapy should feel comfortable, relatable, and individualized to you. Whether we’re talking, laughing, working through a difficult situation, or trying something a little more creative, my goal is to create a space where you feel understood and supported while developing tools that actually fit your life.
How I Approach Therapy
What's My Vibe
I believe the relationship between therapist and client is one of the most important parts of the process, so I take time to get to know the person behind the concerns you’re bringing in. I want you to feel like you can be honest with me without worrying about being judged or having to say the “right” thing. And you don’t have to know exactly what you need from therapy before you walk through the door. We can figure that out together.
I draw from a blend of approaches, including CBT, DBT, mindfulness, and other evidence-based strategies, and adapt them to your personality, age, goals, and experiences. Sessions with me can look different depending on the person. Sometimes we’ll talk through something that happened that week. Other times we might practice a skill, use a creative activity, bring in music or humor, or work through a specific situation together. All I ask is that you come authentically as yourself.
I’d describe my style as warm, adaptable, and a little sarcastic. I have a pretty dry, stoic sense of humor, so yes, there may be a few “The Office” moments in our sessions. At the same time, I know that sometimes you need structure, someone to challenge you, or a little tough love. Other times you just need someone to sit with you, listen, and remind you that you’re not crazy for feeling the way you do.
You shouldn’t have to change who you are to fit into therapy. If you need me to become an imaginary angry dinosaur to help you practice emotional regulation, I’m in. If we need to break down why your favorite song has you questioning every relationship decision you’ve ever made, we can do that too. And if talking about your feelings for an hour sounds like your personal nightmare, that’s okay. We’ll find a way to work through what’s going on without forcing you to communicate in a way that doesn’t feel natural to you.
Therapy can be serious when it needs to be, but I don’t believe healing always has to feel heavy. Sometimes a little humor, honesty, and creativity make it easier to have the conversations that really matter.
What I Am Like Outside Of The Office
If you weren’t a mental health professional, what would you be doing?
