Marriage and Family Therapist
Therapist for Adults, and Couples
She/Her
Hi I’m Janay. As a motivated and passionate young therapist, I focus my work on assisting adolescents, young adults, and couples through their journey of healing. I am working under the supervision of Lisa Ibekwe, LCSW, as I work towards becoming a fully Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.Â
I have been practicing in the field since 2014 and have served the community by providing direct clinical services to youth, adolescents, young adults, adults, and couples. I graduated from Mercer University with a Bachelor’s of Science in both Psychology and Women and Gender Studies. I then went on to obtain my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Mercer University’s School of Medicine where I focused on helping children, adolescents, and young adults with behavioral concerns, sexual and gender identity concerns, and medical issues. While working with this population, I was able to build experience dealing with Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, Anxiety, Depression, Conduct Disorder, Trauma, Adjustment Concerns, and Gender Dysphoria, to name a few.Â
Since obtaining my PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy, my focus has since shifted into helping adults and couples heal as they strengthen and repair the relationships in their lives and discover their voice and identity in the world around them.  I am currently working towards multiple specialized certifications to enhance my work with couples and am a trained Gottman Level II Therapist, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Therapist, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapist currently working towards certification. I am additionally a Certified Prepare and Enrich Facilitator. In addition to my specialized individual work with adolescents, adults, and couples, I also have experience working with families as they adjust to different life experiences and transition through different phases in life.Â
As a therapist my primary goal is to encourage, motivate, and support my clients as they confront previous traumas and create independence and increase self-esteem. I create an environment that allows for these changes using such methods as Solution Focused Therapy, Structural Family Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques. My hope is that by creating a safe space for everyone involved to open up everyone will heal and find peace.
