Clinical Student Intern
They/Them

Hi, I’m Lou. I am so pumped to be the newest intern at the Macon office. I am currently working towards my Masters in Social Work at Simmons University with a specialized focus on trauma care. I received my Bachelors in Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies from Georgia State University where I focused on trauma and how it impacts our bodies and influences the way we show up in the world. I am currently interning under the supervision of Lisa Ibekwe, LCSW, as I work towards gaining my Master’s in Social Work.

I knew I wanted to be a counselor after volunteering with the Crisis Text Line and Dekalb Rape Crisis Center Hotline. I saw how strongly trauma can impact a person (in both mind and body) and then in turn the community they reside in. This fueled my passion to help people heal. As a result, I chose to not only pursue my Masters but also became a Certified Yoga teacher with a specialty in Trauma-Informed Practice and breath work. If the pandemic has taught me anything, it is that we all can benefit from learning how our bodies hold trauma and how we can turn that poison into nectar.

I am dedicated to collaborating with and helping children, adolescents, and young adult individuals experiencing trauma, depression, anxiety, trauma, and who may be facing LGBTQIA+ related issues. As a nonbinary queer human, I am also passionate about working with LGBTQIA+ children and adolescents. I am passionate about helping them learn how to express their most authentic self in a world that is not always as accepting. I additionally host an LGBTQIA+ support group for Tweens across Georgia and in other states served by the practice. My aim is to provide a safe therapeutic space where you or your child can feel seen and heard. Together, we will work toward setting goals and accomplishing them.

My Specialties:

  • 200CYT, Tough Love Yoga
  • Trauma Informed Certification, Collective Resilience Yoga

My Education:

  • Masters in Social Work, Simmons University (In progress)
  • Bachelor of Arts, Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies, Georgia State University

I’m excited to work with you and help you reach maximum healing!
