Marriage and Family Therapist and LGBTQ Group Therapist
I’m so honored that you are considering me to be part of your therapy journey. I am very passionate about my work with youth and families in the Middle Georgia area. As a family therapist, I view issues as a system when working to help with any problem solving or just talking things out. So in other words, I want to know all about you, your past, your family connections and home life, school, job, community and social involvement. I was trained through Mercer University where I received my Masters in Marriage and Family therapy. I am currently working under the supervision of Lisa Ibekwe, LCSW as I work toward being fully licensed as a family therapist.
I have been working with adolescents and families for the past six years addressing various issues that impede healthy family development. I have experience addressing relationship issues, parenting issues, and working with families with youth that have legal issues. I’m a strength based therapist. I don’t view myself as an expert but an open minded problem solver and listener.
My approach is from a systems perspective and tends to work well with those who feel misunderstood. I feel my quiet personality fits well with them by giving them the space to open up and feel safe doing so. I work from a non-judgmental point of view so I can work with those who need it the most. As a family therapist and someone with a systems view on issues, I aim to improve the system that people are a part of to improve their overall quality of life.
I additionally am an advocate and ally of the LGBTQIA community and work closely with this population in the therapy space to address issues many LGBTQIA individuals face. As an ally, I am very open to working with those with unique lifestyle choices. I aim to provide a safe space where everyone can feel welcome and to feel safe and protected.
I am also very passionate about providing support groups to those who are facing difficulties or just need a little extra support. I currently facilitate the LGBTQ support groups for Tweens, Teens, and Young Adults and would welcome any person interested in learning more. Check out our group therapy page for more information. Otherwise, I look forward to being a support and resource for you!
